Detailed 2-Day Gorilla Trek in Virunga Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Goma
Early in the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in Kigali or at Kigali International Airport by our knowledgeable driver-guide.
You will then start your journey to Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo, driving through the rolling hills of Rwanda to Gisenyi, a border town between Rwanda and the DR Congo, where you’ll stop for lunch.
From there, cross the border into the DR Congo.
You’ll arrive in the evening just in time for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Travel Back to Kigali
After an early breakfast, make your way to the Virunga National Park headquarters for a briefing from the local ranger on the rules and regulations of gorilla trekking.
Then enter the jungle in search of the endangered gorillas.
The trek can take about 1-8 hours, depending on the movements of the gorillas.
The gorilla trek involves walking through the thick tropical forest and hiking on rugged trails.
During the trek, you might also spot several other primates, such as golden monkeys and colobus monkeys.
Upon finding the mountain gorillas, you will spend one hour observing and following them, as well as taking numerous photos.
After the trek and lunch, you will travel back to Kigali, either to your hotel or directly to the airport.
