This 3-Day Mount Nyiragongo Volcano Climbing Expedition specifically takes you to Mount Nyiragongo in the northwestern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Detailed 3-Day Mount Nyiragongo Hiking Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival & Transfer to Goma
Upon arrival at Kigali airport, you will be picked up by our experienced guide, who will drive you out of the city, pointing out prominent and historical buildings.
Drive straight to Gisenyi, the border town between Rwanda and the DR Congo, located on the shores of Lake Kivu, the largest lake in Rwanda, shared with the DR Congo.
Here, you will have lunch and enjoy a launch cruise, interact with local people, and observe the border crossing activities in Rwanda.
After crossing over to the DR Congo, proceed to Goma to check in at your lodge, enjoy dinner, and relax in preparation for the next big day.
Day 2: Ascend Mount Nyiragongo
Have an early breakfast and head to the Virunga National Park headquarters.
There, receive a briefing about the Nyiragongo hike and obtain a walking stick to assist you during the trek.
Hiking Nyiragongo Volcano involves navigating both slippery and rugged terrain, with support only from the walking stick and tree branches along the way.
Follow a well-marked trail to the summit of Virunga’s highest volcano.
This might be the most challenging hike you will ever undertake.
But upon reaching the summit, the view is worth every effort.
Behold the world’s largest lava crater lake, forming a web-like structure that becomes even more spectacular as darkness falls, which is why you will spend the night on the rim of one of Africa’s most active volcanoes.
From the summit, you will also have stunning views of Gisenyi town and the other Virunga volcanoes.
Day 3: Descend Nyiragongo & Departure
In the morning, enjoy breakfast before you begin your descent down this incredible African volcano.
Once back at the park headquarters, drive to Kigali for lunch, and then head to the airport for your departure.
