This is one of the shortest but thrilling trips in Uganda. The three days take you to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park, a prime home for over 700 mountain gorillas in Uganda. The trip also takes you to Lake Bunyonyi, Uganda’s deepest lake and Africa’s second deepest lake.
Day 1: Fly on Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Depart from Entebbe / Kajjansi airstrip very early in the morning at 7am. The flight takes about 1:30 hours, reaching at 8:30 am. Transfer to the hotel for refreshments and breakfast. After breakfast, visit the Batwa community for a cultural encounter. Here visit the local herbalist, see how the Batwa make fire locally, see how they used to hunt and gather fruits while in the forest. Enjoying the traditional performances and tasting the local cuisines is a guarantee except to the ones who don’t wish to.
After a palatable lunch, go for a nature walk through the tropical rain forest. The walk gives you an amazing scenic view of the impenetrable forest, spot several bird species and several monkey species living in the forest canopies. It is a perfect time to cool off the town stress.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking & Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
After an early breakfast, set out to the park headquarters for simple briefing about gorilla trekking by the local guide, be divided into groups of eight trekkers to visit a gorilla family per day.
Gorilla trekking takes you to the thick tropical forest in search of the endangered mountain gorillas. Walk through the slippery trails on steep slopes, having to hold onto tree branches for support. On encountering with the gorillas, nothing thrills like watching the silverback’s red eyes. Spend an hour in the presence of the apes, watching them carry on their normal lives. You can take as many pictures as you want, as long as the camera doesn’t have a flash.
In the afternoon after lunch, drive to Lake Bunyonyi, Africa’s second deepest lake and Uganda’s deepest. On arrival have, enjoy the evening canoeing to some of the 25 islands that the lake encompasses including the punishment island where girls who became pregnant before marriage where isolated as a punishment. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Fly to Entebbe
Early morning after breakfast, drive to the airstrip in Kisoro to catch your domestic flight back to Entebbe International Airport.
