Detailed 10-Day Luxury Rwanda Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Hotel Transfer
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by our experienced driver-guide. He will brief you about the trip and transfer you to your Rwanda luxury hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Travel to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, about four hours from Kigali. Enjoy the scenic drive through Rwanda’s hilly countryside with green plantations and beautiful views. You will have short stopovers for photos and refreshments. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon, check in, have lunch, and relax as you wait for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale
After breakfast, go to the park headquarters for a briefing about chimpanzee tracking. The local ranger guide will explain the rules before leading you into the forest. Trek through the thick forest as you search for the chimps in their natural home. When you find them, spend one hour watching them feed, play, and move between trees.
Chimp tracking usually takes between one and six hours, depending on where the chimps are. Return to the lodge for lunch and a relaxed afternoon, enjoying the view from your lodge. In the evening, you may choose to take an optional walk in the nearby community to see the local lifestyle.
Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, begin your journey to Volcanoes National Park. The drive offers clear views of the Virunga mountain ranges and Rwanda’s beautiful hills. The park is home to the famous mountain gorillas and golden monkeys. You will have several stopovers for photos along the way. Arrive in the evening, check in, have dinner, and rest overnight.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla trekking. Enter the forest to search for the gorillas, walking along steep and slippery trails while holding tree branches for support.
When you find the gorillas, spend one hour with them, watching how they feed, play, and interact. You can take pictures as long as your camera has no flash. Gorilla trekking usually takes between one and six hours, depending on where the gorilla family is located. Return to your lodge for lunch, dinner, and overnight.
Day 6: Golden Monkey Tracking and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Visit
After breakfast, go for golden monkey tracking. The activity is easier than gorilla trekking because these playful primates often stay in one area for long. When you find them, the forest becomes lively as they jump around, some even coming close to you. Spend one hour watching them and taking photos before returning to the park headquarters.
After lunch, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to learn about Rwanda’s traditions. Here, the three ethnic groups: Twa, Hutu, and Tutsi, share their cultures through dance, storytelling, and crafts. Enjoy traditional performances and taste local food before heading back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7: Travel to Akagera National Park
After breakfast, start your journey to Akagera National Park, located in the eastern part of Rwanda. Drive through Kigali and enjoy views of the countryside along the way. You will arrive in the evening, check in, have dinner, and rest for the night.
Day 8: Morning Game Drive and Boat Ride on Lake Ihema
After breakfast, go for a morning game drive in Akagera National Park. You will see many animals within a short time, including the Big Five: lions, elephants, leopards, rhinos, and buffaloes, as well as zebras, giraffes, waterbucks, and warthogs.
After lunch, take a boat ride on Lake Ihema, Rwanda’s second-largest lake. Look out for hippos and crocodiles in the water and other animals that come to the lake to drink. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 9: Return to Kigali and City Tour
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali. On arrival, have lunch and begin a city tour. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about Rwanda’s past, then explore local markets and museums to discover the country’s culture. Lunch will be at a local restaurant where you can taste traditional dishes. In the evening, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Departure
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and transfer to Kigali International Airport for your flight. This marks the end of your 10-day Rwanda safari.
