The 4 days double gorilla trekking Rwanda safari is one of the rare safaris that just a few travelers have taken on. The trip particularly takes you to Volcanoes national park to trek the gorillas. Unlike other normal trips, this one you will trek two gorilla families in the park, having two different gorilla trekking experiences in the same trip.
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes national park
Be welcomed by one of our staff guides on arrival at Kigali international airport. Immediately start traveling to Volcanoes national park. The guide will brief you about the whole trip as he transfers you to Rwanda’s only prime home of mountain gorillas. Being located in the Virunga ranges, the journey gives you spectacular views of the Virunga massif and the thousand hills of Rwanda. Arriving will be in the evening just for checking in, dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and Iby’Iwacu cultural village
Have an early breakfast and drive to the park headquarters. Here you will have a simple orientation about gorilla trekking, the dos, the donts, the rules and regulations to guide you on the trek in the forest. Trekking the gorillas in Volcanoes national park takes you to the thick tropical forests, searching out for the endangered apes in the forest.
Walking slippery and unclear paved trails with the guidance our of a local park ranger. On meeting the gorillas, spend one hour watching them carry on their normal lives, playing on tree branches, feeding and the Silverbacks watching over their troops. After an hour slope back to the headquarters and to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation.
In the afternoon, having had a palatable lunch meal, visit the Iby’Iwacu cultural center, a one stop for all the ethnic groups in Rwanda. Cultures of the Hutu, Tutsi and the Twa are all exhibited here. You will enjoy the traditional performances and taste the local cuisines. Returning to the lodge will be in the late evening for just dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking
Still on this day you will have a very early breakfast and drive to the park headquarters for gorilla trekking briefing. Like yesterday, be divided into groups of eight trekkers to visit a gorilla family per day. You will enter the jungle and search out for these impressive apes, though this time it will be a different gorilla family.
You will still spend one hour in their presence. Note that you can take as countless pictures as you want provided the camera has no flash. After trekking the gorillas, return to the lodge for lunch and an evening relaxation at the lodge, enjoying the beautiful breeze as you wait for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Travel back to Kigali
Wake up to a delicious breakfast and drive back to Kigali for your exit flight.
