3-Day Rwanda Gorilla & Golden Monkey Tour

3-Day Rwanda Gorilla & Golden Monkey Tour

The 3-day Rwanda gorillas and golden monkeys safari takes you to Volcanoes National Park. This is Rwanda’s most visited park because of its Rwanda gorilla trekking and golden monkey tracking experiences.

It is the only park in Rwanda where you can see both gorillas and golden monkeys. During these three days, you will have close encounters with both of these rare animals.

Detailed 3-Day Rwanda Gorilla & Golden Monkey Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at the airport, your driver-guide will meet you, brief you about the trip, and transfer you to Volcanoes National Park. You will drive through Kigali city, and if time allows, the guide will show you some attractions along the way. You will arrive at the park in the evening, check in at your luxury Rwanda lodge, have dinner, and rest in preparation for the next day.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Center

After an early breakfast, walk to the park headquarters for a short briefing about gorilla trekking. The ranger guide will explain the rules and what to expect in the forest. You will be divided into groups of eight people, which is the maximum number allowed to visit one gorilla family each day.

Enter the forest to begin your search for the mountain gorillas. The trails can be slippery and steep, and sometimes you may need to hold onto tree branches for support. When you finally meet the gorillas, spend one full hour watching them as they feed, play, and move around. You can take pictures as long as your camera has no flash. After the trek, return to the park headquarters and later to your lodge for lunch.

In the evening, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Center for an experience with the local Rwandan people. This cultural center represents all of Rwanda’s ethnic groups, including the Twa, Hutu, and Tutsi. You will enjoy traditional dances, music, and local food before returning to your lodge in the evening.

Day 3: Golden Monkey Trekking and Departure

After breakfast, head back to the park headquarters for golden monkey trekking. This activity is easier than gorilla trekking because golden monkeys often stay in one area. Your guide will lead you directly to where they are. When you meet them, the forest comes alive with their playful jumps from tree to tree, and some may even come close to you. It is always a joyful and memorable experience.

After spending one hour with the golden monkeys, return to the headquarters, then to your lodge for lunch and check-out. Later, begin your journey back to Kigali. This marks the end of your trip.
