Detailed 4-Day Double Gorilla Trekking Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by your driver-guide. After a short briefing about the trip, you will start your journey to Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda’s only home for mountain gorillas. The park lies in the Virunga Mountains, and along the way, you will enjoy views of the Virunga ranges and the hills of Rwanda. You will arrive in the evening, check in at your Rwanda luxury lodge, have dinner, and rest for the night.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking and Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village

After an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for a briefing about gorilla trekking. The ranger guide will explain the rules, dos, and don’ts before you begin your trek. Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park takes you through thick forest trails as you search for the gorillas with the help of your guide.

The paths can be slippery, but your ranger will help you along the way. When you meet the gorillas, you will spend one full hour observing them as they feed, play, and move around. Watching the Silverback protect its group is always an amazing moment. After the trek, return to your lodge for lunch and some rest.

In the afternoon, visit the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Center, which showcases the traditions of Rwanda’s three ethnic groups; the Hutu, Tutsi, and Twa. You will enjoy traditional music, dances, and local food before returning to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trekking

After breakfast, drive back to the park headquarters for another gorilla trekking briefing. Like the previous day, you will be divided into groups of eight trekkers, but this time you will visit a different gorilla family.

The experience will be just as exciting, giving you another chance to observe these amazing animals in their natural environment. You will spend one hour with the gorillas, taking photos as long as your camera has no flash. After trekking, return to your lodge for lunch and spend the rest of the day relaxing as you enjoy the peaceful surroundings before dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Travel Back to Kigali

After breakfast, check out and drive back to Kigali for your departure flight. This marks the end of your 4-day double gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda.
