Detailed 6-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trek & Masai Mara Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi and Hotel Transfer
Upon arrival at Nairobi International Airport, you will be welcomed by your travel guide. He will brief you about the trip and transfer you to your hotel in Nairobi. Depending on your arrival time, you may take a short city drive and stop at interesting places along the way. On arrival at your lodge, check in, have dinner, and stay overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Maasai Mara and Visit the Maasai People
After breakfast, depart early for Maasai Mara National Reserve. The Maasai Mara is one of Africa’s most famous safari destinations, known for its wide grasslands that support the big five animals and many other wildlife species.
Arrive in the afternoon for lunch. In the evening, visit a Maasai village and enjoy an evening of cultural activities, including traditional dances, songs, and local food. Return to your lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Full-Day Game Drive
After breakfast, set out for a full-day game drive in the Masai Mara. The reserve offers incredible wildlife encounters, and within a short time, you can spot many animals. Expect to see lions, elephants, buffalos, leopards, rhinos, zebras, giraffes, gazelles, antelopes, wildebeests, and warthogs.
Lunch will be served in the wild, surrounded by the sounds of nature. If you visit between July and October, you may witness the great wildebeest migration; a powerful scene as millions of animals move across the plains in search of pasture and water.
Day 4: Fly to Kigali and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, take your flight to Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and transferred to Volcanoes National Park, home to more than 400 mountain gorillas.
The drive offers beautiful views of the Virunga mountain ranges and local villages along the way. Arrive at your lodge in the evening, check in, enjoy dinner, and rest overnight.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking and Visit to Gorilla Guardians Village
After an early breakfast, head to the park headquarters by 7:00 a.m. for a briefing by the ranger guide. You will be divided into groups of eight people, each assigned to a different gorilla family.
Gorilla trekking involves hiking through the forest to find the gorillas in their natural habitat. The walk can be steep and sometimes slippery, but it is an exciting experience. When you meet the gorillas, spend one hour observing them as they feed, play, and move around. Watching the young gorillas climb trees and interact is a moment to remember.
In the afternoon, after lunch and some rest, visit the Gorilla Guardians Village. This cultural center showcases the traditions of Rwanda’s three ethnic groups; the Twa, Hutu, and Tutsi. Enjoy traditional dances, taste local food, and interact with the community before returning to your Rwanda luxury gorilla lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 6: Travel Back to Kigali and Departure
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali for your flight home. This marks the end of your 6-day luxury gorilla trekking and Masai Mara safari adventure.
